Wonky-faced dog rescued from certain death in Qatar desert finds his forever home

 The dog, who has a rather unique facial structure, was facing being abandoned entirely before a kind-hearted Brit stepped in and whisked him away to rural France

A wonky-faced dog who was living on a Qatari building site in the Doha desert has found a new home.

Alan who is now three, was born in Doha, Qatar, alongside five other pups.

The boxer-saluki mix suffers from the facial deformity 'wry mouth', which makes his jaw droop to one side.

The dogs were being looked after by a security guard on site, but he was sadly told that the dogs could no longer stay there.

This put the pups in a perilous position, with fears on the building site that they may have had to be abandoned or put down.

Luckily, a generous Brit living in Doha at the time stepped in and took in Alan, fearing that no one would adopt him due to his looks.

Johanna Handley, an author originally from Godalming, Surrey, chose to take Alan home with her.

Her sister adopted one of Alan's siblings with the rest being sent to America via the National Greyhound Adoption Program (NGAP) charity.

Alan now lives a swanky life with Johanna in Île de Ré, an island off the west coast of France.

Johanna said: "It [wry mouth] doesn't affect him at all. He eats just fine, breathes just fine, sleeps just fine. I was worried that it would initially, but he's just wonky.

"He's a completely lovely dog, really sweet, very calm and chill. He loves to run on the beach and he's a total thief. He'd steal food out of your mouth."

And if that wasn't heart-warming enough, Johanna, an author, is using Alan as the inspiration for a new children's book called Alan The Wonky Dog.

"The book is about a little girl who finds some stray dogs in the desert, she instantly bonds with Alan who is very wonky but very sweet," she said.
